About Art Rogers
For nearly three decades, Art Rogers has been transforming fabric, fiber, and unexpected materials into imaginative three-dimensional works of art.
Art began creating textile sculpture in 1997, developing a distinctive style that blends traditional textile techniques with mixed media, sculptural construction, woodworking, painting, and a generous sense of whimsy. From the first stitch to the finishing touches on a presentation base, nearly every element is created, altered, painted, or finished by hand. His work encompasses animals, birds, sea life, and fantastical creatures—each individually handcrafted using carefully selected fabrics and materials.
Rather than creating literal replicas, Art interprets his subjects through texture, form, color, and personality. His signature hooded, hand-painted glass eyes have become a defining feature of Art Rogers Designs, giving each sculpture its own unmistakable expression and character. Original designs, unusual textiles, polymer clay, wire, wood, paint, airbrushing, and found or repurposed objects frequently come together in a single piece.
Art’s work has been featured in magazines, galleries, exhibitions, and retail venues and has found its way into private collections around the world. Over the years, he has participated in numerous artist and industry events, including those of the United Federation of Doll Clubs (UFDC) and the Original Doll Artist Council of America (ODACA), as well as an international Meet the Artist appearance in Osaka, Japan.
His exhibition history includes Effusion Gallery, Dog Tired Studio, and Tropic Cinema in Key West, Florida, along with Summer Breeze, Art to the Rescue, and What’s Your Sign at Stirling Art Studios & Gallery in Dunedin, Florida. Art has also shared his craft through hands-on workshops, guiding students through the process of creating their own textile sculptures using the materials, tools, and techniques of the medium.
Art holds a Master of Fine Arts from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. His artistic perspective was further shaped by a remarkable 32-year career in the Conservation Department of the Saint Louis Art Museum, where working in close proximity to extraordinary works of art deepened his appreciation for craftsmanship, materials, preservation, and detail.
Today, through Art Rogers Designs, Art continues to create one-of-a-kind mixed-media textile sculptures that invite a closer look—and, perhaps most importantly, a smile. Each piece reflects his belief that fine craftsmanship and fine art need not take themselves too seriously, and that a little whimsy can make the world a more interesting place.
